Woops! Time flies…

I just had one of those big “woops” moments, realising that April is nearly half complete and I have not yet looked at my “Shady Oaks” screenplay!

Duh. With my head in the clouds, working on “Immortal Forever” I sort of totally forgot I have other stuff to do. Mind you, the time has been brilliant as I plot the mega-story-arc for my Russian Vampire Fiction.

Never-the-less, I must get along and open up Final Draft and concentrate of completing April’s agenda. Just have to do the closing act. Should be no problem.

Things to do in 2015

Posted in Sadie Mae Glutz, Update with tags , , , , , , , , on January 2, 2015 by Kaden Brown

Some changes are happening in my objectives this year. Essentially I am returning to my screenwriting roots and leaving behind novels and book writing generally, as I also look to re-connect with the spiritual aspects of life.

Here is my tentative schedule for this coming year. Here’s hoping…

January:

Ensure “Wear A Flower In Your Hair – A dialogue with Sadie Mae Glutz” is successfully published. This happens on Jan17!

April:

Complete draft screenplay of “Shady Oaks”. This currently awaits the final act to be written.

June:

Start writing “Syncopation” a Lindy Hop-themed dance-romance screenplay.

July-September:

Prepare draft script of “Shoot Me Quick” for possible inclusion in NZ’s Make My Movie competition.

December:

Finish 2nd Draft of “Syncopation”.

I have no real idea how things will progress, but heck, what is life without plans and dreams? At some stage I want to get to Los Angeles and/or Florida, for a week or so. People to see and places to go… Enjoy the year.

Dee Dee “Awakening” S01E02 First Revision

Posted in Dee Dee with tags , , , on December 20, 2014 by Kaden Brown

For anyone who has read the original screenplay “Dee Dee” from many moons ago (2009/10), there is a follow-up episode screenplay now available they may be interested in.

"X" marks the spot where Dee Dee gets killed...

“X” marks the spot where Dee Dee gets killed in “Dee Dee”…

The episode was called “Awakening” and packaged in a series called “Blood Ties”. It follows the awakening of Dee Dee after her late-night attack outside her home in the Wellington suburb of Petone. The script is dated 27/11/2010. This episode later morphed into “Rhesus A” whilst “Dee Dee” morphed into the Vancouver-set screenplay “The Fall of Dee“.

The final scenes have been deleted from this copy. The series was never optioned, never produced, but hey – it was a fun experience. (If you are after the Final Draft version of something drop me a line.)

When the current book (“Wear A Flower In Your Hair…“) is all finished and published there is absolutely no doubt that I will be returning to screenwriting. It is where my heart is and after an absence of a few years there are some brilliant projects waiting to be hammered out.

On that issue, locally, there is some great young drama talent that I would dearly love to work with. So in the back of my head is a musical that one day may get done. Though, now I think about it, there are so many projects to do, where on earth do I start? A huge dream is to write for Kristen Stewart (and Rob too?) so maybe that could be possible… who knows. It’s a dream.

Shoot Me Quick

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on October 10, 2013 by Kaden Brown

My latest script proposal has been submitted to a NZ’er-only competition. You can take a look at and “like” the proposal at Make My Movie:

shootmequick_promo1A perverted introvert loner wonders the streets and clubs of Wellington searching for that elusive joy, that moment of ultimate pleasure for him to record. Pray that you don’t meet him on your next night out.

He has a job, but he’s excluded. Left behind and ignored. Jeered at. Laughed at.

With no friends, out of control sexual urges, and morbid fantasies, Kaden’s only company is that which he records. Prowling the dark streets and crowded clubs and bars of Wellington City he seeks those rare moments of excitement and pleasure that he can keep for himself forever.

Picking-up those too gone to realise, or following those that do, Kaden takes his sole pleasure in tracking them and slaughtering them. In the back store room, the darkened alley, the massage parlour, the college house. A darkened street.

All the time he records on his phone, lurid, bloody and the only satisfaction he can ever get.
Word spreads as the killings increase, spurring a maddening rush by locals to find and stop the “Shoot Me Quick” serial killer.

Guns/assault weapons: how to make me sick

Posted in Uncategorized, Update with tags , , , , , on January 30, 2013 by Kaden Brown

Recently, as part of writing a screenplay about gun violence (called “Shady Oaks” at the moment; as well as being about pharmaceutical drug use, teenage delinquency, domestic violence and racism) I have had to do research on the internet into guns, more specifically, into assault weapons in the US.

A Beretta PX4 Storm

A Beretta PX4 Storm

I have never fired a gun, and a shiver of fear actually passes through me when I even see one. They do chill me to the bone. After-all, guns are made to kill things, animals and humans.

What is absolutely shocking is to find that there are publicly available in many US states, weapons that in my opinion, should not even by manufactured. We’re talking about automatic weapons (machine guns?) that have standardized STANAG ‘fittings’ (STANAG, meaning “Standardization Agreement”, which was established to enable the easy adaptability of ammunition and equipment between armed forces) allowing for clip, box, and casket magazines. Invariably demand seems to encourage the usage of High Capacity Magazines which can hold up to (or more than) 100 bullets. Heck, either the user is either grossly incompetent at shooting, or they’re in some sort of army/combat situation.

A Robinson XCR-L Mini. Can be fitted with STANG magazine holding 100 rounds.(!) The advertizer has even styled the word "NEW!" in blood (WTF)

That being the case then surely such things should NOT be available to the general public to buy and potentially use against any person. I know the gun lobby argument make the owning of guns sound like a person has the “right” to such ownership, but surely, surely, these things have one purpose and only one purpose – to kill people. I won’t go into the issues related to guns (that would require me revisiting infantile and inane philosophy lessons from my university days, and I so cannot be bothered doing that) and refuse to countenance even the slim possibility that maybe gun ownership could be a good thing.

Point blank – the owning, possessing or trade of any sort of gun makes that person complicit in the murders of human beings. I do not give a damn about claimed rights to protect oneself and family. Bollocks. If I upset people, I really do not care.

Normally I try to steer clear of poilitics, American politics in particular. But on this I think even President Obama is soft on the issue: The right to own guns should be overturned. On top of that the gun manufacturers should be arrested for crimes against humanity, or at-least there should be a group action civil case brought against the various manufacturers. They have blood on their hands.

And I feel sick from seeing so many guns.

“The Fall of Dee” Screenplay

Posted in Dee Dee, Lilith, Uncategorized, Update with tags , , , , , , on January 8, 2013 by Kaden Brown

It’s been a while, so here is a quick update on things.

No editing of “Lilith” has started yet due to travel and moving. Hopefully things get started at some stage.

Plus, my screenplay “The Fall of Dee” has been submitted to Amazon Studios. Hopefully, things go well and it garners some attention.

Happy new year everyone.

A ‘By the the Book’ Plot – Romance

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 20, 2012 by Kaden Brown

Browsing through my documents folder I came across some interesting things I thought I’d post. If you look on the right-hand menu, under ‘Downloads’ you will find a link to a short story (*.docx format) I wrote a number of years past. It is about how I met the first love of my life, Julie, in the local pub (The Main Top) in WestBank, Widnes. Sadly she passed away in September 2002. Have a look at ‘A Boy and a Girl’ to see how Julie and I first met.

In the folder I discovered some stuff about writing related to plots and structures of stories and screenplays. Here is a great romance plot from ‘Adventureland‘ (it stars Kristen Stewart) that follows a love story between a boy and a girl – unrelated to my short story about Julie.. It follows the typical structure.

The Boy Meets the Girl Plot Template

  1. The Boy and Girl become friends
  2. The Boy meets the Guy who he reveres and sees as a “real man” – the guy is everything the boy only ever dreams about being – dangerous, confident, married and promiscuous
  3. Another girl tells the Boy that a Guy they know is cheating on his wife.
  4. The Girl tries to deter her friendship with the Boy from developing further
  5. So the Boy goes out with Another girl and asks her to keep their date secret, so as not to hurt the Girl
  6. Unbeknown to the Boy the Girl has an ongoing secret sexual relationship with the man
  7. The Boy feels guilty about dating Another girl and tells the Girl about the date – he still wants their friendship to deepen. The Girl is deeply hurt and walks off.
  8. The pressure of being the “other woman” leads to the girl ending their torrid affair
  9. But not before the Boy gets told by an acquaintance that the Girl and the Guy have been seen getting real close sexually.
  10. The Boy gets upset and confronts the Girl as she leaves the guys apartment secretly avoiding the Guy’s wife.
  11. The Boy goes out with the Another girl and tells her everything about his feelings and the Girl and the Guy, when she promises to keep the secret
  12. The Another girl promptly tells all her friends about the Girl and the Guy.
  13. The Girl is horrified and upset to find out everyone knows about her sexual habits and think she is an easy lay
  14. The Girl leaves town to escape their stares and whispers.
  15. The Boy realises his stupidity and goes after her.
  16. Boy and Girl re-meet and they both explain their deep regrets over their behaviour
  17. Boy and Girl end up together.

I love weepy stories and happy endings. I am not a ‘Steel Magnolias‘ kind of guy.
