“Rhesus A” Comes Back

Happy news just in time for Christmas and the New Year: “Rhesus A – a Vanguard Newborn” about our favourite baby vamp, Zetty, has been re-published just in time for those intrigued readers.

Though the edition that is being published is the original hardcopy only, which includes the original draft version of the first chapter or-so of “Lilith”, there are plans afoot to get “Rhesus A” edited at some stage in the future. Sadly, an error during the extremely late stages of writing saw all the formatting of the book lost. So I thank my lucky stars that the book even survived! However, there is no timeline on possible editing.

For what will possibly be a limited time you can buy the hardcopy version (all 424 pages) of “Rhesus A” from Amazon (link coming asap, and CreateSpace: https://www.createspace.com/3790494)

Teaser: “O-Negative”, Chapter One (Sequel To “Rhesus A”)

Things are beginning to roll here Down Under, where winter is setting-in and work is consuming if not all, then most of my waking hours. Thankfully I do get some time off (for good behavior?) therefore getting time to write is not completely impossible.

Productive I have been, and in the probably rather prolonged build-up to the sequel to my first novel, “Rhesus A”, (which is about newborn vampire Ashley Zetterburg’s attempts to adjust to life as a Ward of the Vampyre Council and new member of the Vanguards, the secretive Black Society which specializes in spying and infiltrating human and vampire groups) maybe excuses for delays have niggled and eaten at me.

“O-Negative” carries-on our heroine’s journey as she returns from overseas and starts her training as a spy. She is in for a mighty shock, not only at what profession she chose to become, but upon discovering secret human farms and a way of life she had never believed true, she realizes her own hypocrisy and tragic ethical choices.

Ashley may not be able to change the Black Society, but her importance gives her something even her new friends can never imagine – influence and the power to lead.

Without any further delay, here is Chapter One of “O-Negative” (Ashley Zetterburg book 2):

An Absence Explained…

It has been a while since I posted in my blog, something I have kept reminding myself I must do.

Finally, here I am with the sad news that my mom passed-away on the 7th March, less than a month after my dad, Grahame died. Emotionally things are still pretty up in the air, and I haven’t yet been able to get back to Adelaide or to Melbourne to see my sister.

Hopefully I get cracking with the writing, as things are beginning to pile up to be honest, and at some stage I should have some news about editing and new releases. Many thanks to all those who have spoken kind words.

Vanguard LA

One of the Vampire Societies is that of the Vanguards… so it is with some bemusement that Zetty is sent to the Vanguard Club to work, alongside fellow vamp, Arkady. It is Ashley’s first job and one that she grows to love. It’s the launching pad for some of the adventures and events that almost overwhelm her.

So, I thought I would show you what the Vanguard Club looks like. Yep, it is a real club, right in the heart of LA…

It is a pretty big club, much larger than what it looks like from outside. Plus, it is a favourite of the stars – performers and patrons alike – who want to be seen out and about, with the beautiful people. Hollywood at its best! If or when you visit the City of Angels, this a club you have got to experience.

“Rhesus A” Withdrawn Temporarily

Just letting people know that Rhesus A has been pulled from sale. This means that there should be no new hardcopy or e-book versions on sale. Having said this, I am sure that some local shops and niche suppliers may still have copies available. Likewise with second-hand copies.

Books 1 and 2 of the Ashley Zetterburg series (Rhesus A and Vanguard Coven) will be edited and released at some stage in the future. A major prompt in this decision was the following review on Amazon:

New!                  JugsMacguyver reviewed Rhesus A

So close…                 6 July 2012
The actual storyline is great. Well paced, engaging characters, not your average vampire book. Sadly, this was hard to find through the infuriating spelling errors, grammatical errors and words that were completely omitted. It really doesn’t appear that the book was proof read at all. It’s also a bit strange that the British main character swings between calling her mother mum and mom sentence by sentence. Disappointing…
It is an enticing review, honest and informative. And I agree with it totally. So, off to the editor it is. Maybe that teaches me for not getting the manuscript edited in the first place!

Getting Sorted

Posted in Lilith, Rhesus A - a Vanguard Newborn, Uncategorized, Update, Vanguard - Coven with tags , , , , , , , , , on September 28, 2012 by Kaden Brown

Just like The Beatles’ “Getting Better” (all the time) things here in hot-one-minute-cold-the-next-Adelaide are getting sorted. Though if one looked briefly, giving a cursory glance in the general direction of my life you may not think it, that yes, things are on track to at-least getting better.

This doesn’t mean everything here is fine. The opposite is true. My mum is back in hospital (I think this is her fourth time in less than a month) and hopefully, this time she will not be kicked-back home too quickly – even though mum and I would dearly love her to be able to live at home safely. At-least in hospital she is away from the safety hazards and hassles associated with living independently in a suburban house. For me, just living in a house all by myself is so alien that I have no idea how I would cope in the long term.

On other issues, I need to get on a financially stable footing before proceeding with the editing of Lilith (and at some stage, Rhesus A too), decide if Lilith has been completed (I’m 99% sure that the manuscript is complete), and continue with the planning of the third book, Vanguard Coven, which may also be called something else entirely along the same theme as Rhesus A. The storyline for VC is coming along nice and continues on from where Rhesus A ends. It really does just get better.

My days are occupied by study, going to the hospital, job interviews and drinking coffee. Hmm, I think I have sampled half the cafes in Adelaide and may have settled upon one which does an okay flat white and edible food… their real test will be if they can make a decent Americano. Now if only their cafe tables were just slightly larger so that my laptop would fit…
