The Irony of Solar de Cahuenga

Posted in Rhesus A - a Vanguard Newborn, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on January 31, 2012 by Kaden Brown

Near to where Zetty lives in LA is a cafe/restaurant: Solar de Cahuenga

It is a popular hangout with screenwriters and people who just want good food, good drinks, and somewhere to chill.

Mig and Zetty drink here because it is convenient. Sadly they can’t eat the food or enjoy the sun. It is the place where Zetty first discovers that problems might stand in her immortal way. And that she is the one people are terrified of.

Well priced and with excellent food and drinks, Solar de Cahuenga is a recommended destination.

If You’ve Ever…

For anyone who has wandered up Hollywood Blvd and come across this place:

You will probably know where Vanguard Club is (incidentally, Vanguard Club is also known as ‘Angel’). Zetty hasn’t realized (in VN) that the Museum of Death is like, next-door to the club where she works.  And a little further up in the other direction is… Atomic TatooLA where they do great vamp style tats. Maybe Zetty will get one…

I’ll Bite Your Face Off

I just came across this great t-shirt and thought I’d pass it on.

I had to laugh – it’s just like one Zetty wears when she kills the pub manager.

Brief Synopsis of Vanguard Newborn

Posted in Rhesus A - a Vanguard Newborn, Uncategorized, Update with tags , , , on January 16, 2012 by Kaden Brown

Depressed and alone, from a broken family and a murdered brother, Dee awakes on the pavement having been assaulted. Covered in blood and slipping in and out of consciousness she is rescued by her best friend’s family who give her blood to heal.

Upon recovery she is mortified to learn that she is now undead, an immortal – with a liking for Rhesus A positive. Oh, and seriously screwed by her new family of outcasts.

Being made a Ward of the Vampyre Council, and candidate for the secretive Vanguard Society is the least of Ashley’s problems. Or so she thinks. A grouchy tattooed mentor with no patience, a face that everyone is terrified of, and not being allowed home are enough to worry about.

Ashley doesn’t know it, but powerful forces are aligning and she is their unwitting target. Then there’s the plotting and scheming of the Council Overlords who hold her life in their own hands.

Growing up as a teen in the undead world she faces loss, fear and betrayal. Ashley must survive long enough to help solve the horrific crime that shocks the immortal world and resolve the question as to who, or what, made her.

Don’t forget, the full manuscript of VN is available for free preview at CreateSpace. You can click here to download the pdf version.

Vanguard Newborn Preview Available

Posted in Rhesus A - a Vanguard Newborn, Uncategorized, Update with tags , , , , on January 15, 2012 by Kaden Brown

After a couple of eventful days checking the proof of VN, things have advanced remarkably well.

As of now, VN is available for free preview at CreateSpace. You can click here to download the pdf version.

In addition, you can leave your own review and answer questions about the book, plus give it a rating.

So go for it, have a read, give me and everyone else your opinion.

FYI, VN will be officially published in February.

Oh dear… laziness comes back to haunt me

So, I’ve been having a good old read of VN – and yeah it is pretty good to read – and, one thing I have noticed is that there are a number of simple formatting and other errors (which should have been picked-up at editing) that will necessitate a number of re-submissions/ re-proof (if that is a word).

The February timeline is still on, as this eventuality has been factored in. Some changes are required and hopefully in the next week the revised proof will be on it’s way.

Exciting times ahead 🙂

Lilith is coming along nicely too. FYI, it will be a much ‘darker’ novel than VN.

I got proof!

Blow me down. The proof copy of Vanguard Newborn has finally arrived, totally blowing my mind. Maybe I need a celebration. It will have to wait until I have read the thing in totality though.

First looks and having read chapters 1-3 and I am surprised. Shocked. Elated! The book is way better than I had anticipated. Like, ready to pick-up from Paper Plus and buy. Really, really overwhelming to say the least.

Sure, there are a few (very few actually) things that may need fixing for the book to be absolutely perfect. Whether-or-not I fix those things will have to be decided over the next weeks or so. In the bigger scheme of things they are so minor I’m certain any reader will barely notice them.

In the next week the retail price for VN will be decided, as will the possibility of distribution outside of the US. I’m not happy with the forecasted price, hoping that it could be kept well below the NZ$30 mark (preferably RRP of NZ$22.99 or thereabouts). We’ll have to see.

Regardless, I gotta keep on writing.
